For a long time now, ever since Pope went to the hospital because of his back injury, we’ve seen how close Pope Thanawat and Mint Chalida are. Mint still has the mood to prank and annoy Pope all the time. Premium Tawan Deard thus had the two chat together behind the cameras. After we’ve asked them two questions, Pope and Mint interviewed each other. The outcome was a flavor filled with the laughs and cuteness of these two peenong (siblings).
Did you two know each other before this?
Pope: I knew of her through the television. I didn’t personally know her.
Mint: I knew him through his movie “October Sonata: This love that we waited for,” in which he paired with Koy Ruchawin…I didn’t think that P’Pope would be such such a tease (kon kee lin). (There is Pope’s loud voice teasing next to he …. I play with poo? PUN: lin kee // kee lin) Yeah, that…he plays…so much like this. His appearance seems still and a bit mature. But really, his personality seems childish like he’s not very grown up.
Pope: I also watched her lakorn, “Dong Poo Dee.” I watched many, many other lakorns of hers too. So I addressed her with are you “Nong Strawberry Cheesecake?” Her style seems like those strawberry kids. HAHA. I mistakenly addressed her.
Mint: He wanted to get acquainted with me so he asked if I came from “Strawberry Cheesecake.” So I felt…because I’m a teenager…and I am with Ch.3, he probably thought I was with “Strawberry Cheesecake.” So I told him I wasn’t with Strawberry Cheesecake at all…He doesn’t look up other people’s profiles, huh…When I then found out we would play in the same lakorn, I at least went to search which projects he has played in before.
How was your first meeting at the casting?
Pope: During the casting…Oho, why were you so tanned (laughs) She’s a still person who doesn’t like to chat much because she came with her mother. I didn’t think she would be a clutz like this.
Mint: The first image when we entered the scene together, that day was the day when P’Pope had to cry in the scene. So then when we played the lakorn, I saw that he really cried. I truly felt sorry for him. (Hmmm… You felt sorry, then why didn’t you comfort me. *Pope inserted the tease).
Mint: Because we didn’t know each other before and I didn’t know that we would come and play in the same lakorn. I didn’t even know that his name was P’Pope. And at that time, he was still motionless (still). He didn’t show his annoying patterns yet.
Mint: P’Pope was looking for Jaded. What competition was that for?
Pope: At that time, I think it was a contest searching for Jaded. Jaded is Bayinnaung. It was Yakob’s opus in the story, “The victor of ten directions.” It is Thai literature, but the story is from Burma. I played the praaek, Jaded and the contest was held in order to find me…(Laughs HAHA..Mint fung aeu? (Mint, are you listening?))…At the end of the contest, I got accepted to the next level with twenty people. So then we went to Ganjonburi…At that time, I saw Great Warintorn Panhakarn. We were close in the set…In turns out I got it and Great got it too. But my friend was the person who got it. And what about Mint, have you ever competed in anything?…When you were a kid.
Mint: When I was younger?…
Pope: Or, when you were younger, your face wasn’t cute so no one accepted you in a contest? (First flower (blow?). Mr. Pope isn’t sparing his junior)
Mint: I entered the industry when I was 7-8 years old.
Pope: What industry?…Buddhist literature? (He’s always teasing so that now Mint screams)
Mint: P’Pope…Gosh, will other people be able to understand…I did modeling and fashion for silk clothings. Things like this. They were modeling contests, but I didn’t win anything… Like it was just 50 feet of walking. For every stage I walked, I failed all of them.
Pope: Who pulled you into the industry?
Mint: P’Gun (Arirutton Penchay) I had some experience. I gradually did commercials. Ch.3 went to P’Gun
and asked who I was. So then she brought me here. At that time, I was 11 years old. The day when I came to Ch. 3, I was wearing a green Girl’s Scout uniform. I came with my mother. It was two of us. We took the subway because we thought it was close. When we got off the subway, we just walked…When we were halfway there, I felt like it was very far. When we reached the place, my body was covered with sweat…They asked me what are some things that I can do. (We hear Pope inserting his voice saying: wash the dishes, sell things)… So I told them, the only thing I can do is smile beautifully. At that time, I was a very shy kid. (Pope: Really?) Not like how I am now. (Pope: I don’t believe it.) I didn’t speak with anyone. They asked what’s my name. I said, “My name’s Mint ka.” What other things can I do. I said Thai dance. So I showed them my Thai dance.
Pope: How come now, you’ve turned into such an…such an annoying person? Not shy anymore. Why are you like this now! Answer me!
Mint: It’s because I received cultivated experiences from the acting set. I learned to confidently express myself more. When I first came to play with P’Pope for example, I have to dare talk back to him, or else I would lose.
In the story, how’s your character?
Pope: In the story, I’m a young man in his reckless years (high spirits). The truth is, I’m/he’s still young… He’s like a guy who’s had a painful life. Singh is a fair person. Anything that is not right, he would not
give in to it. He would do things that he thinks are just. Whatever anyone says, he does not care. He’s a blunt person. He initiates things. His emotions are open. When he’s angry, he’s angry. When he loves, he loves. When he cries, he cries. He’s crazy. He doesn’t give in to anyone.
Mint: But I like this character.
Pope: You like me, Pope? (No. No.) HAHA.
Mint: P’Pope always likes to be crazy.
Pope: And what about Ploykwan?
Mint: Ploykwan is a still person (No…the opposite). She’s also a blunt young lady. However he is, she has to be like that too…She still have some child-like qualities in her. She’s a young woman like her sister. She has to take care of and take responsibilities for the farm. She’s easily angered. Straightforward. Spunky.
Pope: Singh likes Khun Nu Ploykwan. What does Ploykwan think of Singh?
Mint: He’s just a a subordinate.
Pope: You’re not interested in him at all?
Mint: I don’t care at all (she emphasizes her words and acts superior)
Pope: Why? Isn’t he quite adorable?
Mint: You already saw me all the time when we were playing together. And you’re still going to ask. (laughs)
Pope: Okay, okay. In the beginning, you don’t love him. How about later, do you love him?
Mint: You’re asking so much. They would be spoiled. We have to let them follow and watch the story
themselves. How would Ploykwan end up with Singh? She never thought he was charming, but then which aspect of his charms would she fall for?…We have to let the viewers watch themselves…But from the beginning to the middle of the story, she would not accept his love at all. No matter what she wouldn’t choose him.
Pope: Ayy, you won’t accept him? You want someone like Pootawan, P’Mak, something like this.
Mint: In the story, yes.
Pope: Well, P’Mak plays Pootawan. (That’s right, that’s right).
Mint: It’s more like I felt our destiny were connected (with Pootawan)…in the story…And what about P’Pope. You’ve tried to woo Ploykwan. Since we’ve played so far, was it difficult?
Pope: Singh?…Singh. No matter what, she’s his only one. Whether he successfully wooed her or not, I don’t know. But she’s the last person already. (Other people liked you, you don’t like them back?) Ploykwan introduced other ladies to Singh all the time, but Singh doesn’t care about anyone else. (He’s a onehearted, one-love kind of man?) Yes…My real self, I’m also a onehearted, one love kind of guy.
Mint: Out of the scenes you’ve played, which is your favorite?
Pope: I like the drama scenes.I’m the type who likes to play those kind of emotions. It’s the kind that we play during casting all the time. Like..crying (Your shirt was torn too). My shirt was torn too? I can’t recall it…Like, I play it and the character is really sad, but I find happiness in the acting…That scene is the scene where Singh expressed his feelings to Ploykwan. He explains to her the reason why he is this type of person. He tells her what happened in Singh’s past. As he told her these things, he weeped. It was something like this. It’s a scene that touched my heart. And the flirting scenes are quite cute. I like the ending scene. It was pretty cute.
Mint: I like the scene where I smacked P’Pope with a basin. (Pope laughs heartily). It’s like, it was very gratifying that I was able to…ei…Did it hurt? (It didn’t hurt). P’Pope is the type of person who’s like…
You really want to prank him. It’s the scene where he met me and kissed my cheek…He asked what I wanted in return. I didn’t answer him. He just impetuously came forward to kiss me. I was holding the bsin already, so I splashed him with water and then smack him with the basin.
Pope: Were you actually, really angry with me?
Mint: I was injured since the first day, the first scene when we opened the set. I learned my lesson from since day. So I set my mind and thought about what P’Pope did since that day. I just struck him with the basin till it was dented. I splashed the water on him till he even shivered…I want the readers to really, really know his personality. The first day I met him, he was prim and proper. He was still. But now that it comes to this day, look at him… He would always have his trick and ways to prank me. When he’s with me, he would call me….Nu…(makes her voice a bit flabby)
Pope: Fat. I don’t call you Nu. I call you fat. The reason why I prank her is because I want to cultivate a close bond between us. So that we trust each other and then our acting performance can be good. We won’t be shy of each other. (And you think I would trust you?)…Eiy. I just try to tease her so that she won’t be stressed out. So that we would be close and so that there would be a fun atmosphere. It’s not like I tease her because I don’t like her.
Mint: P’Pope, do you like this type of lakorn?
Pope: For me, huh? The truth is, I wanted to play this cowboy style lakorn with horses. Because I’ve always
rode horses. I used to think, if one day I can play in a lakorn that deals with horses, it would be nice. So that I can show my skills in this area too. And then one day, P’Nok gave me this script to go casting. It’s a story dealing with cowboys. It was unbelievably coincidental. Then when I came to the set, everything looked so professional. Even the image and the staffs. They were detailed in their work. I consider it a very gigantic project. I think it’s really difficult for Thai lakorns to be made like this. I think we’re both lucky to have the opportunity to work in this lakor…I think so. And what about Mint, what do you think of this lakorn?
Mint: The first time I heard that I was going to play in this, I didn’t think I would be playing a girl who is like, spunky. Like, she’s very spunky. Which is an aspect that P’Nok probably saw in me. She’s a kid with spunk, but she didn’t think she would have to take care of the farm. I had to ride horses. I didn’t think it would be so cowboy like this. But when I came to the fitting and put on the cloths, I saw everyone’s work and the costumes, the production looked big. It’s gigantic just as P’Pope mentioned. Especially the clothes, face and hair. Even the location…Everything as P’Pope said. I didn’t think Thai lakorns can be made this way. It looks like the western movies that I watched before. It looks like it’s from that era. I feel very happy that I played in this story.
Pope: You’re 17-18 years old already. How old were you when you experienced puppy love?
Mint: I experienced it before. (Pope: When you were 2 years old?) Crazy…I was already in primary school, in grade 4. It was puppy love. It’s a mood where friends in the classroom would tease each other with. So it was like…we didn’t actually like each other for real. But it’s like…Our friends teased us, so we just went along with it. Friends just tease each other back and forth…Hey you, this is your boyfriend. Things like this.
Pope: And what about lately? Are there a lot of guys flirting with you?
Mint: None. Right now, I’m studying and working only. P’Pope, you’ve seen it.
Pope: I didn’t see. I’m not with you all the time. I don’t know.
Mint: In the set, what would I be doing? I just chit chat on the phone just like you. (Pope: I don’t talk on the phone during working hours) You don’t talk on the phone during working hours, but I mean after the set.
Pope: How did you see me? I’ve never let you see me on the phone.
Mint: Don’t. I saw it before. After the set, I would see you on the phone…(Pope: So then, right now, you’re single?) I’m single. And what about you, P’Pope?
Pope: Me? I’m also single right now. (Mint: I don’t believe it.) We’ve never asked each other about this. This is the first time. I’m still single. (Mint: Is that true?) You ask this much, I just answer this much.
Mint: I think this is a question that many people want to know. What is your type, P’Pope? I think she must be pale and small, thin.
Pope: Basically saying, the opposite of you. (laughs heartily) The truth is, I don’t have an ideal type. (Mint: Really?) I’m the kind who like females with beautiful eyes. I’ve told many people already that I like women with beautiful eyes. I like women who smile beautifully. That’s it. If we meet, then we’d feel a bond. (Nang sao Thai//Thai misses smile beautifully) No, no. Not nang sao Thai. Them, they’re pretty like models. They’re not pretty like…
Mint: That means P’Pope likes the cute types.
Pope: I can’t tell you. But like when I meet her…it’s like ayy if our personalities are compatible. I would like this kind. I don’t have an ideal type. But one thing, she must be adorable…
Pope: When this lakorn airs, what do you want the viewers to be most touched by us?
Mint: I want them to be touched by the plot of this story. When I read it, I thought this plot belongs to all the characters. Every character has a background story. It’s not like…I’m sad. There’s a history to it. Some stories are true stories for certain people. Like for Ploykwan, it may be a kind of love that many people encountered before. The quality of this lakorn is good. The production is also good. The image that was prepared, it can be admired within this story. It’s a enormously built. Like with the city scenes, they also built it for real. It’s like a city that actually exists. It can be made into a touris area where viewers can see the lifestyle of cowboys. They can see the kind of life people back that lived in. It’s capable of being historic. It’s a story filmed for the viewers. I can tell you, the imagery in this story is beautiful…really beautiful. And what do you think, P’Pope?
Pope: Well, you’ve said everything already….Well, my thoughts are just like yours…(How about your thoughts as a viewer). If from that perspective, I want the viewers to have expectations in everyone’s acting in this story. For me, I was really, completely into it. I’m also sure everyone else also put in their 100 percent. Like the director said, each and everyone showed a lot of their skills. If someone dropped down, then we would all be dead….If everyone put their all into this, it would make this lakorn stimulating/arousing. It would attract followers. I want the viewers to see the production, the creation of the city, and importantly, everyone’s acting in this story. It should entertain the viewers and believe what happens in the lakorn.
Mint: I would like to leave lakorn Tawan Deard with the fans because it’s a lakorn where I’ve changed my character and there are many other things that have been transformed so that I appear more mature. Both voice and demeanor. I want to give this lakorn to the viewers. I want you to watch everything in it. I think many people would like this lakorn.
Pope: For me, I want you to watch a lot of Tawan Deard. I feel like it’s a lakorn that is fun. It shows the viewpoints of the greedy. They seek certain things, but they are capable of hurting people, of people in the whole country. It is a lakorn with morals, giving viewers perspective. I want everyone to follow this lakorn a lot.
